New Year, New Beginnings!

My dear friends,

As this year draws to a close, I would like to invite you all to reflect on the events that have transpired this year, to cherish the good and forget the bad. And most importantly, to remember what the Savior has done and what He has given to each of us. Be grateful for your many blessings and commit to be a better disciple of Jesus Christ. Take up your cross daily and follow Him. In the scriptures, we read that we are to "choose you this day" (Joshua 24:15). With the new year, let us all see it as a new day, a new start, a new opportunity to follow Jesus Christ. He will never forget you for it! I promise you that. In the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

6 Month Mark of Being a Missionary!

Good day everyone!

Wow, I haven't written on my blog in forever, it seems. Things are just so eventful! My companion and I are meeting and helping people left and right that I hardly ever have the time to stop and write it all down. (Which is a good problem to have.) We get the opportunity to help people temporally and spiritually so that we can help them to come unto Christ. I mean, what more could I ask for? I love it!

Since today marks the 6 month anniversary of the time that I became a full-time missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I feel that I should stop and say a few words about what I have learned. I cannot think of a better thing to post besides my testimony. I know that Jesus Christ lives. He is my Lord and Savior, as He is yours. I know that it is only through Him that we can be saved. He atoned for us. He knows how to help us, comfort us, guide us, and relieve us of our pains, sorrows, and afflictions. Jesus Christ can make us whole again. I know that He can. I bear witness of that in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

"What Matters Most"

"We build deep and loving family relationships by doing simple things together, like family dinner and family home evening and by just having fun together. In family relationships love is really spelled t-i-m-e, time. Taking time for each other is the key for harmony at home. We talk with, rather than about, each other. We learn from each other, and we appreciate our differences as well as our commonalities. We establish a divine bond with each other as we approach God together through family prayer, gospel study, and Sunday worship.”- Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Click here to watch a Mormon Message about just that: spending your time on the things that matter most, spoken by a living prophet of God, President Thomas S. Monson.

Also, check out this.  It's not only cool, but it's true, too! I know that "happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." -The Family: A Proclamation to the World.

Simply put: the Book of Mormon is true!

My companion and I were teaching someone the other day and in the lesson, we asked them how they felt when they read the scriptures, particularly the Book of Mormon. Their answer was beautiful. They said that it felt like Heavenly Father was sitting beside them. I love that response! The scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon, open the windows of revelation. We can feel the Holy Ghost and know that the words are true. I know that the Holy Ghost can bear witness to the reader that it is true, because they are the words of Christ.

"And it came to pass that as he read, he was filled with the Spirit of the Lord." -1 Nephi 1: 12

Just like in this scripture, we can be filled with the Spirit of the Lord as we read from the scriptures daily. How wonderful of a promise! I know that to be true!

The power of music

"Be still, my soul" is one of my favorite songs. I have always loved it and so I thought I would share it. The words get to me every time:

"Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev'ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav'nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
Be still, my soul: The hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last"

I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He can bring us peace when no one else can. He lovingly extends His hand to us to help. We have to be the ones to choose to take His hand, though. I don't think that any of us can ever truly comprehend nor fully appreciate what He did or how He did it, but I know that we can all access His love and obtain that peace if we turn to Him. This I know.

"If you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation."

One of the highlights of my mission so far!

                  My companion and I were going to visit someone the other day when we saw a girl sitting down by herself off to the side of the road. She didn't look too happy and I felt that we should say something to her. We walked over to her and started talking. As we talked, she cheered up. Not only that, but more and more people soon gathered around to hear us! And better yet, they were wanting to learn more about what we had to say! They wanted to come to church, they wanted our Restoration pamphlets, and they wanted CTR (Choose The Right) rings! They were SO eager to learn more! It truly made my day! There are those out there who want to learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and they are thirsting after it; they want it so badly. I am truly thankful that I get the opportunity to bring the Truth of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ to people. What a great blessing that is!

                 In Doctrine and Covenants 11:8, it says: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, even as you desire of me so it shall be done unto you; and, if you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation." I want to be a means of doing much good. I know that I can as I do things that Jesus Christ would do.

The healing power of Christ's Atonement

I have come to appreciate more fully the Atonement of Jesus Christ as I have worked with people and I have seen what can happen when someone applies it to their lives. The Atonement can remove the stains of sin, cleanse the feelings of guilt and remorse, and heal a broken heart. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is infinite and eternal. We need never despair or walk alone, because He is always there: to strengthen, to help, and to forgive. It is amazing just how much our Savior really does care about us. The Atonement is real. I know it is! I have seen it work time and time again. The Lord is able to change us from the inside out, where the world tries to change us from the outside in. We only have to turn to Him first. It is a truly awesome gift that Heavenly Father has given to us. Of that I testify.

Answered prayers

I would just like to say that I know that Heavenly Father hears and answers prayers. He really does. He is mindful of us and our needs. He knows what is best for us. How comforting is that? And best of all, He wants us to talk to Him! He wants to hear from us and is eagerly waiting to answer. It doesn't matter how small or insignificant we think our prayer is; if it's important to us, it is important to Him. That is truly a blessing!

A couple of weeks ago, there was someone who had lost her phone. I suggested that she could pray for it to be found and then, upon leaving, I offered a prayer asking that it would be found. Whenever my companion and I came back, she had found her phone! I was so happy for her. She also said that she had also prayed to find it after we left. ...And then she did. I know that Heavenly Father cares about us and is willing to answer if we will just ask Him. I know that is true!

"Bloom where you're planted"

               I have relearned this week how very important it is to learn to trust the Lord and to trust that He knows what is best for us. He knows everything from the beginning to the end. I have always known that, but (like I said) I had to relearn that. You see, this week, I had to leave my first area and I wasn't that excited about it. I was kind of sad actually and I didn't want to leave my "home"... the place where I had made so many new friends. ...But I knew that the Lord needed me to serve in my new area for a reason and I believe that. I was just struggling with leaving, I guess, for whatever reason. I had to pray for help from my Heavenly Father and He helped me. I love my first area and I will miss it, but I am here now and we are supposed to "bloom where we're planted." I am enjoying my new area and I am glad that I get the chance to make even more friendships and to help more people come unto Christ! It was a small trial of my faith, I guess, but I know that the Lord will help us as we turn to Him in faith.

"I want to be a missionary..."

      You know, it's great being a missionary! I get to meet new people all the time and I get to make lasting friendships. I get to witness miracles on a daily basis and, most importantly, I get to be a representative of the Lord, Jesus Christ! Everyday, I literally take His name upon me as I put my name tag on which bears His name. I get to be a representative of Him and experience all that comes with that. I get to know Him. I have the wonderful opportunity to share my testimony with all who will listen. I get to be like my Savior! What more could I ask for?
       Each of us can be examples of truth, righteousness, and each of us can be like our Savior; if we choose to be so. God has blessed us with the wonderful gift of agency. Thus, we are free to choose, to act, to experience. It is why we are here! But we will be more happy, more blessed, and our joy will be more full if we choose to follow the Savior.
       I know that as we exercise our faith in Jesus Christ that we can know that He lives. We can feel His love for us and that through Him, we can be forgiven.

One of my favorite scriptures on being a missionary:
"Lift up your heart and rejoice, for the hour of your mission is come; and your tongue shall be loosed, and you shall declare glad tidings of great joy unto this generation." -Doctrine and Covenants 31:3
